I visited the famous Alhambra perched on the hill that kind of looks like a castle. And my favorite site in Granada was the Albaicín. Which is a little village of whitewashed houses on another little hill. I worked my way through the albaicín and got some great views of Granada and the surrounding Sierra Nevada from a little church and plaza at the top. the best part is that on the way down there was a hillside full of gypsies living in little caves carved out of the hill. some were playing music and some even had electricity.
Two weeks after that I made it to Itálica where there are ancient roman ruins. the pueblo is extremely small but very interesting. Seeing the ruins was once a place where gladiators fought was cool.
The same weekend i traveled to Córdoba with my program and took in the sights there as well. it was a beautiful day blue skies and got a tour of the ancient mosque-turned-cathedral. and it was added onto through the three centuries following its creation. which is incredible because y there are places where you can see where the old meets the newer. After I explored the city with some friends and we wound up in a thriving plaza filled with tables outside and people playing a guitar and a violin (electric) looking for some extra change where we sat and had a couple drinks. On the way home our bus broke down TWice just outside of the city. it took four hours to get on the road again when they had to send for another to pick us up from sevilla and our guide felt bad and took everyone to the closest bar to go pee and have a drink in celebration.
that sounds like a lot of fun.
